Rugby Beer Festival

Well, its almost time for Rugby CAMRA's annual beer festival. This year's is a landmark one, as it's our 30th.

It does not seem 30 years since the early days at the Oakfield Club, where we had around 20 beers on tap from brewers like Wadworths, Adnams and Hook Norton. How times have changed with the micro-brewery revolution. This year's festival will again take place at the Thornfield Bowls Club on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th June. The opening times are 2pm -11pm Friday and 11am -11pm Saturday.

We have 50+ real ales, a selection of ciders and a foreign bottled beer bar. As always, food will be available at all sessions with a variety of rolls including the ever popular pork batches.

On Saturday night, you can be entertained by the sounds of Dave Pepper from around 8pm. Yet again our infamous tombola and auction will be running, with the auction at about 3pm on Saturday. There will be a selection of pub games for you to play, thankfully provided by Sue and Chris from the Squirrel.

If you are thinking of joining CAMRA then look out for the special deals available if you join at the festival.
This year, our beer range includes a few from new breweries set up in the last few months. A variety from our local brewers, including Atomic Ales, Dowbridge, Wood Farm and the more recent Long Itch, Church Farm and Whale Ales.

We are having a coastal theme to some of the beer range, which seems to make sense as we are so close to the nearest resort and its almost holiday time! So here's looking forward to our 30th festival. I hope you can all come and join us for a beer or three to help make our 30th one of our most successful yet. See you there.Steve Durrant (beer festival organiser)
