Rugby CAMRA Pub Of The Year (POTY) - 22nd Jan 2008.

The Merchants Inn has retained the prestigious title of the Rugby Pub of the Year for 2007 from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) .The Merchants faced stiff opposition from the other pubs in the area and was made to fight all the way to the final decision. Steve Heighton , the chairman for the local branch stated "This was the best competition yet with the biggest vote the contest has ever had. There were a number of pubs in the area in the running but the Merchants polled the biggest share."

The Merchants in Little Church street, is already the current Warwickshire pub of the year and this adds to its growing reputation. The pub which has eight different real ales on at all times and is a worthy winner, particularly this year with such stiff competition.

The presentation is to be made by Steve Heighton on Wednesday 23rd January 2008 at 8.30pm to owner Gary Burlisonr and Scott Whyment the manager.

Raglan - re-opens 23rd Dec 2007.

Drinkers in Rugby have had a Christmas present come early with the reopening of the Raglan Arms on Dunchurch Road. The pub which closed at short notice under controversial circimstacnes, has been at the centre of a campaign for Rugby CAMRA to get it reopened. The members from Rugby petitioned hard and fought the closure of the pub and are delighted with the pub having reopened. Steve Heighton the local chairman stated "This is great news for all drinkers in Rugby . The Raglan albeit only a small pub, has been one of the town's best for a number of years. We fought hard to get it reopened as we felt very strongly that the pub had a real future. The new owner David Hines has a proven record in quality real ale pubs and having refurbished the Raglan, it is now even better than ever. The quality has remained and we are delighted that locals to the area have got their pub back again. For us in CAMRA we fought hard to win this battle and it’s a great Christmas present to have it back".
